Winter Skincare Rules You Need to Know - Silki

Winter Skincare Rules You Need to Know

Ladies, your wardrobe isn't the only thing you should be changing come winter. It’s time to take extra care of your skin to keep it glowing during these cold winter months. A bit of effort and a few small tweaks go a long way to keeping your skin radiant, happy and healthy. Here’s everything you need to glow through the approaching winter.

Use a Gentle Cleanser

Use a cleanser that provides your skin with adequate moisture. For winter, skip ones with alcohol, salicylic or glycolic acid as these ingredients can have a drying effect on your skin.

Add a Good Exfoliator

The advantages of exfoliation, when done right, are no secret. Gentle exfoliation removes dead skin cells and helps other products absorb better. Remember ladies, while exfoliating helps brighten the skin by removing dead cells, overdoing it can disrupt the outer skin layer, leading to dryness and irritation exacerbated by plummeting temperatures. Add the Silki Exfoliating Glove to your skincare routine to give your skin exactly what it needs. It provides the correct level of exfoliation whilst caring for and protecting your skin. My skin has never felt softer because of this little gem.

Layer Your Skincare

You know how you need to layer your clothing to keep yourself warm in the cooler months? You need to do the same with your skin to prevent overdrying. For those of us who need a super quick explainer on how to layer skincare, a good rule is to layer lightest to heaviest. With that said, what works for one doesn’t necessarily work for the other. It’s a matter of preference. You know your skin, so do you Boo.

Moisturise! Moisturise! Moisturise!

Use a heavy moisturiser that will keep your skin soft and supple in the face of harsh, cold, winter air.  There are some hot ingredients you should look out for. “Ingredients your skin craves in winter include nourishing omegas 3 and 6, ceramides, rosehip and squalene” says Mark Curry, co-founder of The INKEY List.

Seal in the Moisture with a Good Facial Oil

Facial oils can be an absolute lifesaver when it comes to winter skin care. They help lock in the hydration.   Use oils rich in Vitamin C and Vitamin A. Vitamin C helps boost the production of collagen and protects the skin against the harsh environment. Vitamin A is well known for its anti-ageing properties. Silki’s Rosehip Oil contains a long list of nourishing ingredients to protect your skin during winter and beyond.

Wash With Lukewarm Water

This is a hard one for me. We know that hot showers in winter may relax your muscles, but hot water is no good for your skin. Sigh. It makes your skin dry and flaky. Go for lukewarm water if you want happy, healthy skin. Sigh again.

Limit the Use of Indoor Heaters

Oh come on! Really? Yes. Really. Protect your skin with warm clothes, socks and gloves and keep the indoor temperature as close to normal as possible.

Stay Hydrated

Drink up. This rule applies to all year round ladies. Water is your friend and keeps you hydrated from the inside out.

Apply Sunscreen

Yes, you have to wear sunscreen in winter.  No matter how cloudy it is outside; don’t skip your sunscreen. UV rays from the sun can pass through the clouds and burn your pretty skin. So don’t skip your SPF! Ever!

Yes Lovelies, with winter comes blistering winds and cold and it can take its toll on your skin. But with a little planning and the correct products you’ll keep your skin looking healthy, protected and beautiful throughout winter and beyond.
