How To Exfoliate Like a Pro

Whether you’re a skincare maven or a bit of a novice, chances are you’ve heard about the importance of exfoliation. Still, many of us are unacquainted with the benefits, the latest techniques and methods. If exfoliation is new to you, or you just need a refresher, stick around—we have all the information you need.

What is Exfoliation?

Exfoliation is still one of the all-time best ways to improve your skin’s tone and texture, and it’s something we can all do at home (bonus!). You heard me right ladies, if you want smooth, happy and radiant skin, it all starts with removing dead cells from the outer layer of your skin using an exfoliant. There are a few ways to exfoliate though, so which is best for you?

Methods of Exfoliation

Exfoliants come in different shapes and sizes. Chemical, Mechanical and Physical. Here’s where we get a bit technical ladies.

With chemical exfoliation, enzymes and acid-based products are used to loosen the sticky substance that holds dead skin cells together. Mechanical exfoliation involves the use of a machine or device to exfoliate, like Microdermabrasion. Now that’s a mouthful.

There are a couple of ways to physically exfoliate. One involves using a liquid or scrub to polish the skin. Another involves using a skin care tool, such as a glove or brush.. At Silki, we know skin, so we’ve introduced the Silki Natural Exfoliating Glove. Heard of her? She’s the glove no one should be without. Hello fresh, radiant, baby soft skin. More on her later ;)

Benefits of Exfoliation

I’ve always been big on exfoliating. I mean, a fast track to soft and supple skin? Sign me up!

Here’s a snippet of why:

The benefits are endless, no seriously, how long have you got?

Anyone here want to hold on to the debris clogging up their pores? Any takers? No? I didn’t think so.

When you exfoliate, you’re sweeping away dead skin and debris that may remain on your skin after cleansing, before it can clog up your pores. You effectively get rid of the gunk that can result in whiteheads, blackheads and acne.  Win! Win! Win!

Guys, not only does it remove dead skin and unclogs pores - it helps to lessen pigmentation, tackle fine lines and wrinkles, accelerate collagen production, help skincare products work more effectively and more!

Tips on how to Exfoliate

A bit about my skin, it’s sensitive and a tad exasperating. So, naturally I’m picky about what I put on it.  I’m especially careful with it when it comes to exfoliation. I make sure not to scrub too hard because this does more harm than good. So, yeah - you can get it wrong. And end up causing damage to your skin barrier. Trust me, this is a no-no ladies. It opens you up to a whole host of skin complaints.

So you’re going to want to make sure that you’re doing it right. But don’t stress, we’ve got you. Our tips will have you exfoliating like a pro in no time.

Tip 1

Be Gentle

If you go in too hard you’ll end up making your skin angry, and sis packs a mean punch, so go easy on her.

Tip 2

Exfoliate once or twice a week

Too much of a good thing is bad. So start off slowly. Get a feel for what your skin can tolerate. And remember, less is more.

Tip 3

Use a High Quality Exfoliator

If you use a product that isn’t up to standard, it may cause micro-tears on your skin. These tears allow bacteria to enter your skin. Bacteria and skin - not a good combo. However, if you use a good product the risk of micro-tears is virtually nil.

Ah… If only a product existed that helped us to exfoliate effectively, whilst protecting and caring for our skin, helping us to live our best-skin-lives... tall order? Not if you’re Silki.

Silki Natural Exfoliating Glove

I know a great product when I see one. The Silki Natural Exfoliating Glove is made of 100% pure cocoon silk, so even the most sensitive skin is covered  (hello, this has our names written all over it). Plus it’s ideal for use on the face and body (so you’ll be glowing from head-to-toe!)

The Silki Exfoliating Glove slid into my weekly skincare routine with ease. It provides the perfect level of exfoliation and protects my skin barrier with its intricately woven silk fibers.  This is in essence what sets it apart. Truth be told I love it and I love what it does for my skin.

The combination of physical exfoliation and stimulation helps to:

  • Remove dead skin
  • Unclog Pores
  • Absorb Skincare products better
  • Reduce pigmentation
  • Prevent ingrown hairs
  • Accelerate Collagen Production
  • Treat and prevent Keratosis Pilaris
  • Removes fake tan

Ah... The Silki Glove. Such a show-off.
