The Right Way to Get Rid of Ingrown Hairs

Hair removal can be a messy business. Even when you figure out which method works for you, dealing with ingrown hairs is a common frustration. Here's how to prevent and treat them properly.

What Are Ingrown Hairs?

Ingrown hairs (folliculitis) are common in those that shave or wax. They're characterised by small red bumps with visible trapped hair, similar to a pimple — meaning there's an infection at the base of a hair follicle. They can be painful and get worse over time.

Step 1: Exfoliate First

Exfoliate your skin a day or two before hair removal to buff away dead skin that can clog your pores. Exfoliate again a day after hair removal and once a week thereafter. A gentle exfoliation limits ingrown hairs and leaves skin smooth. Read our guide on how to exfoliate correctly without overdoing it.

Step 2: Moisturise After

Once you've shaved or waxed, apply a light moisturiser to keep the area hydrated and encourage cell turnover. Silki's Rosehip Oil contains Vitamin A that promotes cell turnover and deeply nourishes and hydrates skin.

Already Have Ingrown Hairs?

Apply a warm compress to the affected area for about 15 minutes, then gently exfoliate. To reduce inflammation, apply a drop or two of Silki Rosehip Oil. You're well on your way to smooth skin.
